A mixed-use site in Charlestown’s Sullivan Square that was once proposed for a 24-story tower is heading to foreclosure auction next month.

According to the Boston Business Journal, the nearly half-acre property is currently home to residential and commercial use totaling more than 20,000 square feet. The foreclosure auction is scheduled for May 20 through JJ Manning Auctioneers.

The proposed site at 33 Cambridge St. was one of a series of planned Sullivan Square developments projects associated with the development firm Rise Boston. Rise had envisioned a 285-unit residential high-rise at the site, located just a short walk from the Sullivan Square stop on the Orange Line. The company has also pitched additional nearby projects, including a 161-unit tower at 24 Spice Street and a separate 72-unit development west of I-93.

Other upcoming projects in the Sullivan Square area include a major overhaul of the Hood Park site along Rutherford Avenue by Catamount Management, as well as a large-scale, five-building development spanning over 800,000 square feet proposed by Fallon Co. and Owens Cos.

The site was last assessed at roughly $3 million.
