In an exciting development, ZUMIX, the East Boston-based non-profit dedicated to using music and the arts to empower urban youth, is launching a fundraising campaign. The goal? To send two of their student assembly groups to the prestigious Panama Jazz Festival January 14-20, 2024.
Founded by Grammy-winning musician Danilo Perez, who also serves as the President of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, the Panama Jazz Festival is renowned as one of the premier events of its kind globally. ZUMIX previously participated in the event back in 2014, an experience that proved transformative for the students involved. This year, Zumix’s Latin ensemble ¿Porque Puma? and the Jazz ensemble Marmalade have been invited to attend.
During their time at the festival, the young artists from ZUMIX will have the opportunity to perform, host a workshop for local students, learn from world-famous jazz musicians, and immerse themselves in the energetic cultural tapestry of Panama.
Meeting fellow young artists who share a passion for music can catalyze lifelong connections and collaborations, and taking the stage at one of the world’s most esteemed jazz festivals is an important opportunity for empowering East Boston’s youth.
