The Charlestown Navy Yard is a very special and historic part of the neighborhood. It opened in 1800 and built and resupplied ships that sailed across the world until its closure in 1974.
There’s so much to explore today in the Navy Yard! From restaurants to museums and plenty of outdoor activities, there is something for everyone!
USS Constitution Museum
The USS Constitution Museum features collections and exhibits about the USS Constitution, a US Navy frigate and one of the world’s oldest commissioned naval warships. The museum is located right nearby the ship and is open 7 days a week.
Tennis/Pickleball Courts
The tennis and pickleball courts are a fun and free activity right in the heart of the Navy Yard! These public courts are first come first serve and have an awesome view of the city!
Eat & Drink
The Navy Yard’s dining scene does not disappoint. Check out Pier 6 for fresh seafood and some of the best drinks in the city while enjoying incredible views of the Boston skyline. Their outdoor patio right on the water is the perfect spot to get together with friends on a sunny day.
Dovetail is another Navy Yard favorite. Their seasonal menus and fresh, local ingredients make them a standout restaurant in the neighborhood. They also have a deli next door called The Shop at Dovetail. Swing by this shop for delicious sandwiches and salads, craft beer and wine, and many other unique food finds!
Free Events at the Anchor
Come to the Anchor to enjoy live music, dance lessons, movie nights, art shows and so much more. This neighborhood staple boasts a variety of fun and free events in their open-air venue. You can also stop by just to visit the wine & beer garden, grab some food and enjoy the lovely outdoor space. Harborwalk
Looking for a scenic walking path in the neighborhood? The Harborwalk runs along the water in the Navy Yard and is the perfect path for a walk, run, or bike ride around town. The Charlestown portion of the Harborwalk is about 2.5 miles however, if you want a longer route, the Harborwalk spans through the whole city! Beginning at East Boston’s water front, the Harborwalk will connect you through the Navy Yard and over the Charlestown bridge into the North End. The path then continues on to the Seaport and leads all the way to Dorchester. It’s a great route for a long stroll in the city!
