There is lots going on at the Bunker Hill Monument this week … both good and not so good.

There’s more than just events and a parade happening this week surrounding the Battle of Bunker Hill.

This is super cool – Archaeologists are hard at work searching for remnants of the original Battle of Bunker Hill fortification as Charlestown prepares to commemorate the 251st anniversary of the historic battle. According to the Boston Globe, the team believes it may have identified the location of the long-lost earthen redoubt where Colonial forces made their stand against British troops on June 17, 1775. Check out the full story, here!

This is not super cool – Some exhibit quotes at the historic Bunker Hill Monument are slated for removal after a National Park Service review, according to The Washington Post. The review was reportedly prompted by a visitor complaint and led to the removal of several quotes on immigration, slavery, and anti-war themes.

The changes come as the National Park Service continues implementing federal directives aimed at removing content deemed to portray the United States as inherently oppressive. Critics argue the move amounts to censorship and erases important historical perspectives, while federal officials say the updates are part of a broader effort to ensure exhibits align with current guidelines. Read more about it all, here.

Some local residents are chatting on the Charlestown Neighborhood Facebook Group about doing a protest, but nothing has been planned yet.

Brewer’s Fork is named a 2026 Legacy Business Award Winner!

Mayor Michelle Wu announced the winners of the 2026 Legacy Business Awards, an event that recognizes businesses that have been operating in the City for at least 10 years and contributed to the cultural, historical, and societal fabric of their community or neighborhood. This year’s cohort of 30 businesses represents 18 Boston neighborhoods, and, as a collective, have been in business for over 1,000 years. This year, the Mayor’s Office of Small Business, located within the Economic Opportunity and Inclusion Cabinet, received over 2,020 nominations, the most in the history of the program. In total, residents nominated 347 qualified businesses.
