The BCYF Clougherty Pool is officially open!
Yay, Summer is here! The Boston Centers for Youth and Family’s Clougherty Pool officially opened on June 20th. All Boston residents can create a free BCYF membership here! Some things to keep in mind:
- Due to capacity limits to enhance visitor safety, visitors must register for a swim time slot through our registration system. Registration will go live 24 hours before the following day’s sessions and will remain open until all spots are taken or until the session begins, whichever comes first.
- Sessions will be time-limited and visitors are asked to register for and attend one session per day. If visitors register for more than one session per day, we reserve the right to cancel their registration if there is a waitlist of individuals looking to attend.
- Visitors are asked to arrive not more than 10 minutes before the start of their session.
- Capacity guidelines limit the number of visitors per session.
- Preference will be given to Boston residents.
- Three children under 12 are allowed per adult. Children under 8 need an adult in the water with them.

Judge orders National Parks Service to restore “woke” quotes to Bunker Hill Monument
A win for history in Charlestown! As we previously reported, some exhibit quotes at the historic Bunker Hill Monument were slated for removal after a National Park Service review. The review was reportedly prompted by a visitor complaint and led to the removal of several quotes on immigration, slavery, and anti-war themes.
The changes came as the National Park Service continues implementing federal directives aimed at removing content deemed to portray the United States as inherently oppressive.
A federal judge has ordered the National Park Service to reinstall informational panels mentioning slavery, immigration, and suffrage that were removed from the Bunker Hill Monument.
The plaintiffs, five groups concerned about how censorship is affecting parks, argued that the Department of the Interior, which oversees NPS, removed signage arbitrarily and unlawfully, and in violation of congressional mandates governing how national park sites are to be operated. Mayor Wu Announces Two Downtown Social Districts through the month of July
Mayor Michelle Wu announced that patrons will be able to consume alcoholic beverages outdoors within the Social Districts at Union and Marshall Streets—located in Downtown’s Blackstone Block Historic District—and on Temple Place in Downtown Crossing. The initiative begins tomorrow, June 19, and will conclude on July 31. By implementing these Social Districts, extending liquor license hours to 3 a.m., and other initiatives, the City is creating vibrancy for patrons and expanding opportunities for Boston businesses during one of the region’s busiest summers in recent years. Read more about it, here!!
“As Boston welcomes people from around the world to gather and enjoy our city this summer, these new social districts will create even more opportunities to build community and have fun responsibly. These districts help us open our streets in a safe environment for residents and visitors to enjoy themselves, “sip and stroll”, and make lasting memories in our beautiful city,” said Mayor Michelle Wu.
