Free Arts + Crafts for Kids at Peter Looney Park

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s annual ParkARTS program is pleased to announce the return of free Arts & Crafts Workshops for children. From West Roxbury to East Boston, kids ages three to ten can enjoy a wide variety of arts and crafts activities led by local artists at the workshops held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. This week, this fun and free event takes place at Peter Looney Park Park on Friday, August 2, 9, & 16.

Flip Flop Party on the Pier

Join Courageous Sailing for a fun-filled night on the water! Kick off your shoes, put on your favorite flip-flops, and dance the night away oceanside on the Pier.  There will be music, drinks and more!  Tickets are $50, and you can purchase them here. Prior to the party, the Flip Flop Regatta, a fun and competitive race (one of the largest New England regattas of the season), will take place!   The Flip Flop draws a 50+ boat fleet, all racing in support of Courageous Sailing’s mission of transforming children’s lives through sailing programs that inspire learning, personal growth, and leadership. Sailors interested in joining the regatta should visit here! 

Talie Rose: Live Acoustic at The Anchor

Introducing The Anchor’s summer live performance series – “Acoustic @ The Anchor.” Every week enjoy an intimate singer songwriter experiences – featuring a talented roster of artists from 3pm-6pm on Sundays! Kick back and relax with dinner and a drink while enjoying an evening of live music and a comfortable and scenic waterfront outdoor location. This week’s performer is Talie Rose!

Portuguese Musical Storytime with Rejane De Musis

Enjoy songs, rhymes and stories in Portuguese on   – Children’s musical performer and educator Rejane De Musis will lead a storytime for young children in English and Portuguese.

The Townie Cup Street Hockey Tournament will take place on August 3rd and 4th at Eden Street Park. Twenty teams from all over the city will battle it out for the coveted Townie Cup!  Get all the details here! 

HarborFit: New Moon Yoga at the Charlestown Navy Yard

Linda Wells, “the Wellness Warrior,” leads a New Moon “Yoga For All” class outdoors. Bring friends, a mat, and water in preparationfor a gentle New Moon yoga experience. Her New Moon practice is inspired by the season, encouraging reflection and full-body nourishment. This class explores ways to make yoga adaptable for every body regardless of age, shape, size, or ability—no experience required. Directions: Please meet inside the Charlestown Navy Yard in the grassy area on 1st Avenue & 5th Street.  You can register here. 

Take a swim

After a two year renovation, the Clougherty pool is now open! The outdoor lap pool and family pool are now open for the summer 2024 season, and the bathhouse and roof terrace will be completed for summer 2025. The Clougherty was originally built in the 1940s, and the new upgrades modernize the facility and make it more accessible. The total project budget is a $35.5 million investment. Listen up, ice cream lovers—and honestly, who doesn’t love ice cream? The state of Massachusetts just launched its new ice cream trail, featuring over 100 spots for locally made ice cream!  One spot on the trail is right here in the neighborhood.  Get the scoop (see what we did there?) here!
