Update -the gun salutes are back in action in the Navy Yard via the USS Constitution on Instagram:

USS Constitution has resumed daily gun salutes!

Following the completion of necessary maintenance, our saluting battery is once again operational, and the ship will resume firing during morning and evening colors.

Huzzah!

Come observe morning colors every day from the adjacent pier at 8 a.m., or evening colors each evening at sundown.

We are proud to once again carry on this longstanding naval tradition aboard “Old Ironsides.”

Plus, Old Ironsides will be underway on Friday, August 28th around 10 am from the Navy Yard to honor and celebrate the legacy, leadership, and service of U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officers.

The USS Constitution announced on social media that due to current restrictions, “Old Ironsides” is unable to conduct its regular in-port gun salutes until further notice:

NOTICE TO OUR GUESTS AND LOCAL RESIDENTS

Due to current restrictions, USS Constitution is unable to conduct gun salutes while in port.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

We will share an update on our social media platforms when we resume our daily gun salutes.

Thank you for your continued support of USS Constitution and her crew.

The good news? The cannons aren’t completely going silent. The USS Constitution will still participate in scheduled demonstrations and fire gun salutes when underway in Boston Harbor. The ship has several underway dates remaining on its 2026 schedule.

As to what the “current restrictions” are, they have not been publicly detailed, but we are looking into it!
