Neighbors Push Back on Plan to Replace Charlestown 99 with Apartments
A proposed redevelopment of the longtime 99 Restaurant site located at 201 Rutherford Ave. is facing strong pushback from the neighborhood.
According to CBS Boston, after the recent announcement that the BPDA approved plans to replace the Austin Street location with a large apartment building with around 240 units, many residents are sounding the alarm over density and, especially, parking.
With far fewer parking spaces than units proposed, neighbors say the project could make an already tough situation even worse. “Parking is already a nightmare around here—this is only going to add to it,” one resident told CBS Boston.
Traffic and overall neighborhood impact are also top concerns, with some residents urging developers to rethink parts of the plan.
While the project has received city approval, it’s clear the community wants more of a say as things move forward. Stay tuned on this one.
