Good grief!

Massachusetts State Police is reporting that a Boston man is facing multiple charges after he drove into the Sumner Tunnel while it was closed this weekend.

Elvis Nazaret Escobar Sr., 21, was arraigned on Monday in East Boston Municipal Court and was released after posting a $540 bail.

According to WCVB Channel 5, around 2am on Saturday,  Escobar drove his pickup truck into the tunnel through a closed and coned-off construction zone at a high rate of speed, driving over a coned-off island and nearly striking a group of three workers. Even after that, he continued on through the tunnel before he was eventually stopped.

Escobar was taken into custody and transported to the Tunnels State Police Barracks, where he was booked on charges of speeding, assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, trespassing with a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a crash that caused property damage. Escobar was also driving an unregistered vehicle due to the cancellation of insurance. He was additionally charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
