Learn More About Proposed Monument Square Landmark District on Oct. 21

Charlestown residents are invited to learn more about the proposed Monument Square Landmark District at an in-person community meeting hosted by the Boston Landmarks Commission on Wednesday, October 21st, from 6pm–8pm at the Knights of Columbus, 545 Medford Street.
What is the proposed Monument Square Landmark District?
The proposal would create a historic district around Monument Square to help preserve the neighborhood’s unique character, historic buildings, and architecture.
The area surrounding the Bunker Hill Monument is known for its historic homes, brick rowhouses, and ties to the American Revolution. The proposed designation would help protect these historic features while allowing for thoughtful development and changes to existing properties. If approved, the designation would establish guidelines for certain exterior changes, renovations, and demolitions within the district.
The meeting will provide information about the proposed district and recommendations outlined in the working draft of the study report. Residents will also have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback before the report is finalized.
The meeting is informational and does not represent an endorsement of the proposed landmark district.
For more information, including past meeting recordings, presentations, and the study timeline, visit the City of Boston’s Monument Square Landmark District Study page.
