Literally – Caught in Charlestown
Universal Hub is reporting that on Tuesday, US marshals arrested a woman living in Charlestown for a hearing on Wednesday via request by the Turkish government that she be extradited for embezzling nearly $1.8 million. The funds were stolen from customers of an Istanbul bank between 2009 and 2011 when she worked there as a portfolio manager.
According to the article, Derya Dikici, also known as Derya Terzioglu, 44, fled Turkey in 2011 after learning her employer was investigating the “high-risk trading activities.” Additionally, she and a colleague were allegedly engaged in money they obtained with forged signatures and withdrawals from bank customers.
So how did she get caught? Investigators here in the US were able to match photos provided by Turkish officials with the photo on Dikici’s Massachusetts driver’s license.
