Boston Globe’s Best of the Best Charlestown Winners

BOSTON, MA, July 9, 2025 — The Boston Globe today released its Best of the Best 2025, its annual list of Boston’s best dining, shopping, and entertainment. This year’s list identifies the best Greater Boston has to offer across 28 categories, including sandwich shops, record stores, ice cream, seafood, nightlife, breweries, and more.  Here are the winners from Charlestown!

Best Neighborhood Restaurant – Brewer’s Fork

Tucked away in a quiet part of this mostly residential Boston neighborhood, Brewer’s Fork is your consummate local hangout, and one known in part for its extraordinary wood-fired pizza with toppings including clams, salami, and smoked chicken. In the warmer months, regulars can be found in its private-feeling beer garden, enjoying pizza, and wood-fired meatballs, and mussels while also perusing one of Boston’s better beer lists.

Best Things to Do – USS Constitution

The oldest active warship in the world is a definite Boston must-see. The USS Constitution earned her “Old Ironsides” nickname in the War of 1812 because British cannonballs bounced off her hull. Once you’ve trod the wooden decks of this majestic relic of the Age of Sail—it’s free, but ID required for adults—be sure to board the USS Cassin Young (closed mid-November to late May). This World War II-era destroyer elucidates the dramatic changes in naval warfare over more than a century and a half

Best Sushi – Washoku Renaissance

Chef Youji Iwakura’s food has always been excellent, whether it was at Snappy Ramen or his ambitious downtown restaurant, Kamakura. During the pandemic, he began offering curbside takeout, a venture that grew into Washoku Renaissance, located in Charlestown food hall Foundation Kitchen. The focus isn’t limited to sushi — Iwakura specializes in artful, multicourse kaiseki meals — but the sushi omakase are special, offered in several different formats and filled with carefully sourced ingredients such as baby eel and firefly squid. With just eight seats, the bar is as intimate as they come, providing an opportunity to learn more about sushi and Japanese cuisine.  Learn more here!

Best Nightlife – The Anchor

Dance with ocean mist in your hair at The Anchor in Charlestown. This open-air wine and beer garden hosts weekly events including salsa dancing and comedy shows right on the water, all summer long — free of charge. Drink custom brews and eat some bar bites before line dancing the night away. Want to bring the kids? Many of The Anchor’s movie nights and live performances are great for all ages.
