Dining by the waterfront in East Boston means great food and even better views, with a shoreline overlooking the Seaport and Downtown Boston all the way to Charleston’s Navy Yard. Whether you’re dining out or just grabbing a drink, here’s where we recommend trying for waterfront dining.

Cunard Tavern

Named after the Cunard line of ocean liners that used to dock in Jeffries Point, Cunard Tavern is an “authentically Eastie” gastropub inspired by the neighborhood’s rich nautical history. Filippo and Philip Frattaroli of Filmark Hospitality Group, the brainchild behind North End staples including Lucia, Ducali and Filippo, opened Cunard Tavern back in 2017 as an homage to their East Boston roots. Serving up modern American classics, Cunard offers a full bar, rotating menu of craft beers and harbor-side rooftop overlooking the city skyline.

Seabiscuit

Seabiscuit had big shoes to fill when they took over the neighborhood’s beloved KO Pies in East Boston’s shipyard, and so far, they have yet to disappoint. Husband and wife team Greta and Andrew Platt brought their bakery and coffee program from Somerville to East Boston in September 2021 and merging in KO’s extraordinarily popular menu of Australian meat pies, have created a culinary marvel within Eastie’s working waterfront. The cozy bakery offers a rotating menu of drinks, baked goods and Australian meat and vegetable pies, with a no-frills covered patio that faces a few of the sculptures and murals that ICA Waterfront have built into the marina’s warehouses.

Reel House

A landmark waterfront restaurant located in The Eddy apartment complex, Reel House serves coastal seafood in an upscale, nautically inspired space. Navy Yard Hospitality, the group behind Charlestown’s Pier 6, opened the venue in 2017, and its sprawling outdoor patio has since become a mecca for lively alfresco dining and expansive city views. Guests can catch a ride to the restaurant on the free warm weather shuttle boat, with service between Pier 6 and Reel House offered from May 3 – September 1, on Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.,  and Friday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Tall Ship

A destination unto itself, Tall Ship is the antique masted ship-turned-bar, anchored alongside a 40,000 square foot expanse of outdoor seating. The custom mahogany ship serves a decidedly Bostonian menu of oysters and rose (among other beverages), with unobscured views of the city skyline. Land-dwelling customers can pick from a range of beverages and menu items served out of the refurbished shipping containers that line the pier. The venue offers live entertainment and events throughout the summer, with complimentary shuttle boats available via Boston Launch Company to ferry visitors coming from the Seaport or Charlestown.

MIDA East Boston

East Boston has a brand-spanking new restaurant for you to try! MIDA East Boston opened its doors on August 6th to rave reviews! The waterfront hot spot is located on Lewis Street and is the third location for MIDA from chef and owner Douglass William! MIDA comes from the Italian saying, “he gives me,” meaning guests are welcome to eat, drink and be merry as soon as they come through the door! The menu features Italian dishes like arancini, mussels, gnocchi cacio e pepe, bucatini all’amatriciana and classic puttanesca! As for MIDA’s pizza, it’s New Haven style – which means a crispy chewy crust with toppings like classic pepperoni, sausage and pizza Bianco! To check out the full menu, visit here!
