Raise your glass!
The Espresso Martini is having a moment. It’s the just-right combo of vodka, coffee liqueur, and espresso that perks you up and gives you a little buzz. It’s the perfect brunch cocktail, dessert substitution or post-dinner drink if you continue on your Saturday night bar hop.
Cunard Tavern was recently mentioned in Eater Boston for local spots to grab this cocktail! See post below:
The dishes at this East Boston staple are as diverse as the surrounding neighborhood. Birria tacos share menu space with duck l’orange, Greek salad, and Australian rack of lamb. And thankfully, the Cunard team knows its coffee. They’ve been known to operate a pop-up espresso truck around the nearby shipyard, and the tavern’s signature espresso martini is even served with a sleek branded cocoa sprinkle.
Cunard Tavern is located at 24 Orleans St. in East Boston.
Here’s the history of this wildly popular cocktail:
This cocktail was invented in London way back in the 1980’s by a bartender named Dick Bradsell. Word on the street is Bradsell created the drink which was originally called The Vodka Espresso then the Pharmaceutical Stimulant when a young model bellied up to the bar and asked for something to “wake me up and f**k me up.” And the rest is history.
So without further adieu, here are our favorite spots for the Espresso Martini in the Neighborhood
