5 Things You Should Know This Week – August 4th

How is it already August?
The Bridge of Joy Grand Opening Event is this week
This Wednesday, August 6th, from 5:30–7:30pm, celebrate the debut of Bridge of Joy, a new public art experience in Charlestown’s Navy Yard — featuring Wildlife Wonders, a sculpture exhibit by world-renowned artists Gillie & Marc. Kick off at The Anchor with a special video message from the artists and then explore the full exhibit along the waterfront.
You can also enjoy creative activities for all ages, including animal face painting and airbrush tattoos, custom posters and typewriter poems, plus food and ice cream trucks.
It’s free and open to the public! As a bonus, bring a non-perishable item to one of the collection bins to support Harvest on Vine.
Get ‘Free’ bread La Saison
For the next two weeks, La Saison is donating 100% of their bread sales to Gaza Soup Kitchen, a grassroots organization feeding families in Gaza. La Saison says, “And if you can’t pay, bread is free — because children have already paid far too much… We are bakers. We feed people — whoever they are, whatever they believe. That’s what it means to do this work with heart.”

Call to Artists: What is Home?
The Artist’s Group of Charlestown‘s fall exhibit is titled “What is Home? Personal Reflections on a Universal Theme” and submissions are open now through September 17.
What is Home? Ideally, home is a place providing refuge and a sense of belonging. For some, home is fraught with difficulty, and for others it doesn’t exist beyond a hope. Regardless of our circumstances, the idea of home is universal, yet unique to each of us. This is an invitation for artists to share their interpretations of the idea of home. The exhibition will take place October 3rd to October 19th at 523 Medford St in Chalrestown.

Abbey is the face behind Caught in Charlestown. In 2023 she migrated from Southie to Charlestown and brought the spirit of the ‘Caught In’ community with her. She is a new momma, creator, real estate agent, yogi, and so much more.
