Happy Hour Could Return Under New State ‘Fun Agenda’

State senators are pursuing a new “fun agenda” amendment package to loosen Massachusetts’s notorious alcohol laws. Inspired by the economic boom brought by the World Cup, Provincetown Senator Julian Cyr said the state has seen what is possible when it embraces new ideas to connect people, and that Massachusetts should be a place to gather and share experiences.

“The bars are packed, our people are out dancing, laughing, and reconnecting — and we’ve watched cultures from around the world descend on Massachusetts for one big party,” Cyr said in a statement. “If we can responsibly extend last call for the World Cup, surely we can trust adults to enjoy a discounted drink after work.”

Massachusetts barred ‘happy hour’ and similar drink specials in 1984, the first state in the country to do so. The ban followed the tragic death of 20-year-old Kathleen Barry of Weymouth. After winning a free round of pitchers at a Braintree bar, Barry fell off the top of a friend’s car and was dragged 50 feet, breaking her neck, arms, and legs. The Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission reported the driver had consumed at least seven beers.

Other “fun agenda” items include capping concert ticket resale prices at 110% of their original value, convening a working group to assess the feasibility of a future “Massachusetts Cup” international soccer tournament, and authorizing $5 million to support local farms through agritourism.

A new Pilates Reformer Studio is coming to the Navy Yard

Studio Louise will open soon in the Navy Yard, right next to the new Ruthie’s Juice! August 8th & 9th will be their opening weekend. Their memberships include an intro offer for $99 (valid for 14 days), a $276 monthly studio founding membership, and class packs. Here is their current class schedule!

Here is the lineup of classes:

Fundamentals: FOUNDATIONS

We’re building your practice with intention from the start. This is where you’ll find your confidence on the Reformer with hands-on guidance, form fixes you didn’t know you needed, & intentional attention to alignment. We’ll build control, confidence, & a real connection to your body.

Tempo: JUMP BOARD

A rhythmic Reformer jump board class that blends low-impact cardio with continuous movement, endurance, and full-body strength. Expect the burn, the bounce, and a little reminder that cardio can actually be fun.

Forte: ATHLETIC

An athletic Reformer class designed to build strength & endurance. Think strength & conditioning on the Reformer, with Pilates shakes throughout, leaving you feeling strong & worked.

Prestige: ADVANCED

A challenging Reformer class for experienced students, focusing on complex sequences, strength, and mastery of Pilates technique.

Contour: ARMS, ABS, GLUTES

Hit all the right places in a circuit-style Reformer class targeting arms, abs, & glutes. Two structured circuits keep things moving, the burn intentional, & the shake guaranteed.

Allonge: STRETCH

A slower Reformer class focused on lengthening, mobility, & releasing tension throughout the body. Think of it as your permission to soften & reset.
