Beep Beep! Boston Cabs Are Making a Comeback via Rideshare apps

Well, this feels a little nostalgic.

Remember calling a landline for a cab? Or hailing a cab after a night out? No, okay, we’re dating ourselves, but our point is that cabs are making a comeback.

Thanks to a new pilot program in Boston, taxis will be blending back into the mix. Cab drivers can now accept Uber and Lyft ride requests, giving riders more options while helping cab drivers get a piece of the rideshare action.

If a taxi accepts your Uber or Lyft request, you’ll still see the upfront fare in the app, just like always. (The only exception? Logan Airport trips aren’t part of the program.)

So don’t be surprised if your next rideshare pulls up with a glowing taxi light on top. It’s a little old school—and we’re kind of here for it.
